How often are the searches and when do they happen?

HSAR averages about 9-12 searches each year. They can happen at any time of day or night. In general, we get more searches in summer than in winter because there are more people using the recreational areas around Hinton.

What kind of searches do we do?

The searches can vary depending on the terrain. Hinton SAR is fortunate to have trained members that can search utilizing Off-highway vehicles, horses and on foot. The searches can also be to look for people(s) or for evidence such as discarded clothing etc.

How long will a search last for?

The search length can vary wildly and depends on a multitude of factors. Examples of searches could be conducted during the day and night and last a few hours or multiple days.

How much does it cost to join?

Hinton Search and Rescue has a yearly $10 membership fee. The team is working on the possibility of adopting a uniform fee if the board chooses to adopt it.
